Canine Unit
The Sheriff's Office currently has two canine units. "Buffy", is a bloodhound whose handler is Corporal Chris Stratton. Buffy and Corporal Stratton work as a team to track missing persons, wanted suspects, and escaped criminals. Deputy Bailey's partner is "Ike", a German Shepherd trained in explosives detection and patrol duties. "Ajax" a Czechoslovakian German Shepherd that was acquired in 1998, recently retired after ten years of service to the Sheriff's Office. Ajax and his handler Corporal Jim DeCamp have made a significant contribution to the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Clermont County; and had been involved in narcotics detection during the execution of search warrants, school searches, and vehicle stops. All the canines and handlers attend training programs meeting State of Ohio canine certification criteria.
