The Sheriff's Office currently has three canine units. All the canines and handlers attend training programs meeting State of Ohio canine certification criteria.
Deputy Bailey's partner is "Ike", a German Shepherd trained in explosives detection and patrol duties. Deputy Walsh's partner is "Arron", a Dutch Shepherd trained in narcotics detection and patrol duties. Deputy Summers is the handler for our newest canine, "Guy", a bloodhound used for locating missing and wanted persons.
Recently "Ajax", a Czechoslovakian German Shepherd that was acquired in 1998, retired after ten years of service to the Sheriff's Office. Ajax and Cpl. DeCamp performed narcotics detection during the execution of search warrants, school searches, and vehicle stops. "Buffy", a bloodhound whose handler was Corporal Stratton, recently passed away. Buffy and Corporal Stratton worked as a team to track missing persons and wanted suspects. Both canines and their handlers have made a significant contribution to the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Clermont County.
