D.A.R.E Program
The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office has been actively involved in D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) since 1988. Deputy Geoff Hultgren presents D.A.R.E. in 11 Clermont County Schools and reaches approximately 1800 students per year. After completion of the required curriculum D.A.R.E. graduations are held at each school. Certificates, t-shirts, and water bottles are given to each D.A.R.E. graduate and one student from each school receives special recognition and a plaque for writing an essay titled "My Life Drug Free." Other activities such as roller skating parties and parent nights have been included as part of the D.A.R.E. program format as well as an annual "Red Ribbon" week to stress the negative consequences of drug and alcohol abuse. Additionally, the D.A.R.E. program content has been recently modified to include non-violent conflict resolution as part of the curriculum. Sheriff Rodenberg considers an important collateral benefit of D.A.R.E. to be enhanced relations between youth and law enforcement that is fostered through interaction between students and the D.A.R.E. officer assigned to their schools.
