School Safety
The Sheriff and his staff are committed to school safety. Investigative Deputies are assigned to make periodic visits to and contacts with the schools within the Sheriff’s Office area of operations. This helps address situations within the schools before they become serious problems. For the first time in Clermont County, deputies have been assigned as
School Resource Officers
. Through funding under a U.S. Department of Justice grant, Deputy Doug Flamm and Deputy Ryan Patton have been assigned to work within the U.S. Grant Vocational School and Amelia High School on a full-time basis during the school year, assisting school personnel with safety and disciplinary matters, and interacting with the student body on a personal, non-confrontational basis. Sheriff’s Office staff have worked with school administrators in developing emergency response plans and procedures for the schools which can be activated in the event of school-related critical incidents. Also, the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) has conducted training exercises within our schools so that the unit can be prepared for any incidents.
