Important Tip for Future Concealed Handgun License Renewals:

It is in your best interest to keep track of the date on your training certificate.

If the date on your firearms competency certificate or renewed competency certificate ever exceeds six (6) years, the certificate is invalid, and you must take the 12 hour course (as described in O.R.C. 2923.125 (G)(1) ) to obtain a new certificate.  Taking renewed competency certification training (as described in O.R.C. 2923.125 (G)(4) )  within six (6) years of the date on your certificate allows you to obtain a renewed competency certificate; valid for six (6) years from the issue date.

The renewed competency training, as described in 2923.125.(G)(2),  includes:
(a) A written section on the ability to name and explain the rules for the safe handling of a handgun and proper storage practices for handguns and ammunition;  and
(b) A physical demonstration of competence in the use of a handgun and in the rules for safe handling and storage of a handgun and a physical demonstration of the attitude necessary to shoot a handgun in a safe manner.

The renewed competency training may be significantly shorter than the original 12 hour course.
(Contact an NRA or OPOTA instructor for details).
