Marathon- Attempted Robbery

Marathon Ohio- At approx 9 p.m. on Monday 8/30, a 9-1-1 call was received at the Clermont Co. Comm Center advising of an armed robbery that had just occurred at Dave’s Grocery located at 3806 U.S. Route 50 in Marathon.

The incident was reported by Narendra “Goppi” Patel who is the owner of that business.  Mr. Patel reported that he was preparing to close the store and a male, white, shaggy thick blonde hair, thin build, 16-22 yrs. of age, wearing a white ball cap, black t-shirt, and white bandana over his face entered the store and pointed a black gun at him and told him to place all the money on the counter. Mr. Patel stated he was putting together a 6 pack of beer when this occurred and he threw a full beer can at the suspect causing him to dodge the can, which in turn caused his ball cap to fall off.  The suspect then fled westbound on foot and Mr. Patel pursued the him.  The suspect did not get away with anything from the store and nobody was injured.  A couple on a motorcycle saw the suspect and owner running westbound on U.S. 50.  Mr. Patel told them to stop and advised he just got robbed.  The couple stated they saw the suspect go behind a house near corner of Fomorin Rd. and U.S. 50.   They saw the subject had a gun in his hand and it appeared to be a semi-automatic, possibly a 9MM.

The scene was secured and a K-9 unit responded to the scene for a track.   The crime scene tech also responded to the scene for processing.  The K-9  did not locate a suspect or any further evidence.  The ball cap dropped by the subject inside the store was retained as evidence.   Mr. Patel did not know the suspect and a local resident who was riding his bike near the front of the store stated that had saw the male approaching the store just prior to the robbery but did not recognize him.

Anyone with any information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Clermont County Sheriff’s Investigative Unit at (513) 732-7545.
