Sixteen individuals have been indicted by the Clermont County Grand Jury for drug trafficking in and around the Village of Felicity. The Clermont County Grand Jury met and decided the cases on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, resulting in twenty-four charges. Against the 16 individuals.
Sheriff Rodenberg stated that the Clermont County Narcotics Unit began focusing investigative efforts in the Felicity area of southern Clermont County after reports of crime and street dealing were received from citizens. “A covert investigative operation was implemented just after the new year began and follows an similar operation in 2008 that netted half a dozen arrests in the Felicity area. Clermont County Narcotics Unit agents and Deputies were dispatched this morning in an attempt to find and arrest the indicted individuals. Eight were taken into custody and eight are still being sought.
“The investigation concentrated primarily on street level criminals who were selling prescription medication including Oxycontin, Percocet, Oxycodone, and small amounts of heroin” according to the Sheriff. Chief Deputy Rick Combs said, “Most of the purchases were made on the street within the village limits or just outside the village in Franklin Township. We started the investigation case after receiving a number of complaints from citizens and community leaders expressing their concerns about the continued decline of the village, due to the open and ongoing peddling of drugs in their community”. Combs further noted, “On the good side there was no methamphetamine or meth labs discovered in this operation, suggesting a decline of Meth related activity in Clermont County.”
Combs also reported, “Additional deputies will be assigned to this area at the request of village and township officials to assist in the cleanup of the area and reducing neighborhood crime occurring in specific areas. The Village of Felicity has asked for assistance from us and we will make every effort to resolve their concerns,” Combs said. Rodenberg indicated more arrests are possible as a result of this operation. “These kinds of investigations have a way of turning up additional and valuable information as they progress and unfold,” Rodenberg said.
