CINCINNATI — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has answered the call to support local law enforcement by bringing our Special Agents, technical expertise, and National Integrated Ballistic Information Network capabilities to Clermont County.
ATF has deployed its national Crime Gun Intelligence Mobile Command Center to assist with analysis of crime scenes and spent shell casings through the NIBIN network to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office where it will serve as a base of crime gun intelligence information operations to the many communities in the surrounding area.
NIBIN is the only national network that can capture and compare ballistic evidence to help solve and prevent violent crimes involving firearms.
“ATF will make additional resources available to assist the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office by providing timely and efficient analysis of ballistic evidence from shootings. This capability will help investigators quickly identify connections between violent crimes, disrupt violent offenders, and prosecute individuals prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law.
Assisting our local law enforcement partners in developing a comprehensive crime gun intelligence program is one of ATF’s highest priorities,” said Special Agent in Charge Jorge A. Rosendo.
The ATF Crime Gun Intelligence Mobile Command Center provides investigators with crime gun intelligence information in a mobile office environment. This facility on wheels is equipped with four rooms and six workstations with the ability to accommodate up to 16 people working comfortably.
One room has NIBIN equipment, including two BrassTrax acquisition/imaging units, and a MatchPoint analysis/review, an examiner workstation and a conference table. This workspace is also used to facilitate fingerprinting and DNA swabbing of firearms and evidence prior to entry into NIBIN.
The vehicle also has a firearm test-fire room with ballistic and soundproof material surrounding the room for test firing weapons to obtain ballistic samples.

(Surveillance, Analysis and Forensic Evidence) Unit is already helping us process critical evidence, including cell phone data and ballistic evidence, more quickly and right here in Clermont County. By combining these capabilities with ATF’s expertise and resources, we can shorten investigative timelines, build stronger cases, and deliver faster results for our community.”
