****Original****
On May 9th, 2026, at approximately
2:20 a.m., the Clermont County Communications Center received a call requesting
medical assistance for a female who had reportedly been shot in the 2100 block
of Ginn Road in Washington Township of Clermont County.
Deputies from the Clermont County Sheriff’s
Office responded and arrived on scene at approximately 2:30 a.m. Deputies located a 26-year-old female victim
and Russell Gibbs, age 36, walking in the roadway. The female was found suffering from a single
gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Washington Township EMS arrived on scene at
approximately 2:34 a.m. and transported the victim to Clermont Mercy Hospital
with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office Investigative Unit was
requested and detectives responded to conduct further follow-up. Detectives responded to the hospital to
interview the victim, while additional detectives responded to the suspected
crime scene to identify any potential witnesses and process the area.
Detectives also interviewed Gibbs, who had
been detained by deputies while walking intoxicated along Ginn Road. Following the interview and a search of a
nearby residence, detectives located evidence consistent with the incident
believed to be connected to the shooting.
Subsequent interviews determined there had
been no altercation between the parties involved, but indicate the shooting was
the result of an accidental discharge of a firearm. Gibbs was reportedly intoxicated while manipulating
the firearm and it discharged.
Detectives learned Gibbs had hidden the firearm in a nearby wooded area,
but it was later located and recovered by detectives.
Gibbs was charged for the following offenses:
(1) count of Tampering with
Evidence, a felony of the 3rd
degree
(1) count of Having Weapons
While Under Disability, a felony of
the 3rd degree
(1) count of Using Weapons
While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor of
the 1st degree
(1) count of Negligent
Assault, a misdemeanor of the 3rd
degree
Gibbs was taken
into custody without incident and transported to the Clermont County
Jail where he is being held without bond. He
is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Clermont County Municipal Court
on Monday, May 11th, 2026, at 10 a.m.
This investigation
will be reviewed in its entirety with the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office
for presentation to the Grand Jury for consideration of additional
charges.
